Like many camp directors, Roger Schmidt believes that the single greatest reason for the success of enrollment at his organization, Sitka Fine Arts Camp, is the quality of people who work there. If you run a camp, you know that finding the right people takes a lot of deliberate work - and significant time...as it should! In this session, Roger is going unpack how their mission, values, and story, or the "why" of camp, is deeply connected to the hiring process and how important this is in working toward building an extraordinary faculty and staff. He'll then cover the very deliberate steps and processes that make sure everyone arriving to work at camp - and working there on an ongoing basis - believes in and is inspired by their mission. Ordinary people can become extraordinary people by giving a structure that asks them to bring their very best work to camp. Come find out how you can foster an atmosphere among staff that allows them to not only operate from a position of inspiration, but also perform better and better. From the hiring interview to orientation documents, all-camp welcome dinner, staff meetings, and the teaching space, Roger is going to share some secrets - such as having simple goals with powerful results, mentorship, clear and simple messaging, giving and welcoming, thanking and appreciating - that will help you build the staff culture you've always wanted.
